This a close up shot of the record player which is playing a voice recording from an answering machine during the opening scene of The Strangers. This part of the openinmg scene adds suspence and gives people a spooky feeling about the answering machine and draws poeople in so they want to here what the record player is playing and it also draws people in to watch more of the film to see where the recording had came from in the first place.
